A list of activities within the two contrasting lockdown conditions that have delivered on a partial or relaxed lockdown:

  • Detached youth work within and around the Broomhall area to engage young people in meaningful dialogue, to respond to conflict, violent incidents and antisocial behaviour
  • Telephone and online contact to offer emotional wellbeing support, advice, signpost and referrals to relevant services providing information
  • We have offered an adaptive package of preventative, diversionary support and detached youth work that extends along with the relaxation of lockdown restrictions following COVID guidance
  • Bereavement advice and support for victim’s of violence and young people who have lost loved ones due to COVID19
  • Doorstep check ins’ with children and families
  • The provision of ‘bridging’ support to help young people and families engage with other services (i.e. mental health / police) where needs arise. This included attending meetings alongside young people/families who express limited trust in services
  • Small group outdoor provisions (performed at social distance) including: outdoor sports sessions during relaxed restrictions

In addition these services continued to run until lockdown measures were re-introduced;

  • Daily open access to youth provisions, including health and wellbeing and teen gym sessions
  • Face-to-face activity to help vulnerable young people return to school as well as coping with self isolation at home
  • Drop in sessions for mental health and wellbeing support
  • Mentoring young people deemed most at risk of criminal exploitation, county lines, involvement with criminality and youth violence

Individuals that have attended have been made aware of the consequences of peoples actions and that they have a safe space to go to, to avoid harmful situations and behaviours, while feeling part of an inclusive community.

In total there were 92 participants aged from 10-26 years who access Unity Gym activities across all provisions.
