Quick summary
The aim of the programme is to unite the Twinning Project, Sheffield United Community Foundation, and HMP Moorland to deliver a football-based course within the prison.
The aim of the programme is to unite the Twinning Project, Sheffield United Community Foundation, and HMP Moorland to deliver a football-based course within the prison, leading to a Football Association qualification for three cohorts of 16 young people, with the aim of supporting the reduction of violence and crime, and the development of healthy attitudes, approaches, and lifestyles.
Football will be used as a catalyst for change and to ‘hook’ young prisoners, who may have developed a resistance to learning, into an educational programme which will improve mental and physical health, as well as improving their life chances and giving them an advantage in gaining employment on release. It is hoped that this in turn will reduce reoffending and make local communities safer.
