Purpose
Running a youth club and delivery programme to engage young people in activities and building relationships.
Quick summary
The base programme will host a weekly youth club for secondary school pupils providing direct access to youth workers and support, as well as providing sessions to inform them about domestic abuse and gender equality.
To provide young people with an opportunity to engage in fun activities which gives them access to youth workers who have the skills to involve professionals to provide information and education as well as implementing their own youth work skills to discuss issues identified as a way of preventing an escalation of issues and a repeating cycle.
The Base will run a youth club one evening per week, with a three hour delivery programme split into two sessions to allow for the different ages at secondary school, 11-13 years and 14-16 years. The sessions will be held at the Swinton Lock Activity Centre. Through this evening club parents can be assured their young people are engaged in activities that support them and that these will assist in building relationships between parent and young people.
The programme will utilise the sessions to challenge perceptions, to encourage and inform young people around domestic abuse and gender equality, empowering young women to acknowledge acceptable behaviours and challenge individuals on learnt behaviour around domestic abuse and violence. The programme will provide information around substance misuse including alcohol, challenging perceptions and behaviours. Discussions over knife crime and the impact of being involved either as a victim or perpetrator. In addition, the programme will use other professionals and their expertise to engage with young people.
