Purpose

The aim of this activity is to reduce the impact of violent crime amongst young people, and work with young people to deter them from getting involved in gangs, drugs, knife, and gun crime. The project will work with young people from neighbourhoods which have seen an increase in violent crime to change the cultural and social attitudes which contribute to violence, and use a Public Health Approach to reducing violence by increasing young people’s awareness of the impact of crime on their own mental wellbeing and local residents.

The aim of this activity is to reduce the impact of violent crime amongst young people, and work with young people to deter them from getting involved in gangs, drugs, knife, and gun crime. The project will work with young people from neighbourhoods which have seen an increase in violent crime to change the cultural and social attitudes which contribute to violence, and use a Public Health Approach to reducing violence by increasing young people’s awareness of the impact of crime on their own mental wellbeing and local residents.

As an organisation, RUST have a trusting relationship with young people, the communities they belong to, and the schools they attend, and can reach those young people who are moving towards violent criminal behaviour and entering the criminal justice system. Their frontline staff will undergo training delivered by In2change. After the training, RUST staff will go into local comprehensive schools and grassroots sports clubs in the identified localities, to run awareness workshops for young people and create a safe space for reflective and critical thinking.
