Quick summary

This initiative provides Looked After Children with a safe space to learn how to socialise with the help and support of their carers. It also offers an area where siblings who are not placed together can be together, providing a fun space to make memories.

This funding will support the expansion and improvement of an existing initiative. Their youth club was originally set up in 2017 for Mockingbird Hub children, and was funded by one individual. The purpose of it is to provide Looked After Children with a safe space to learn how to socialise with the help and support of their carers. It also offers an area where siblings who are not placed together can be together, providing a fun space to make memories.

They quickly learned it worked and they could do so much more. They now offer homework support classes, cooking lessons, and team building games, and let the children lead on what activities and areas they’d like to see improve.

It helps to build the children’s confidence and resilience, increases their support group, and helps them make good choices. It helps them to understand that everyone has their own issues and trauma, and everyone needs to take their own journey through that. It teaches them to be caring towards one another, and helps them to understand how they can help and support others.
