The ReconnectEd coaching programme is an early intervention initiative with the aim of increasing attendance and reducing exclusions from mainstream school for young people facing extreme adversity. They do this by providing a trauma-informed emotion coaching programme to address the root causes of exclusion, crime, and violence.

ReconnectEd is working in partnership with Brigantia Learning Trust, where the coaching programme is taking place. The target audiences are young people at risk of exclusion and their families/carers. The anticipated outcomes are for the young people to have re-engagement with their learning, improved attendance, and fewer suspensions and permanent exclusions, which all lead to better life chances, increased social mobility, and less exposure to negative influences and committing crime.

They also anticipate an increased understanding by schools of the young people’s needs, and how they can positively intervene. Minimised poor behaviour will also lead to a positive ripple effect on teachers, peers, families, and the community.

ReconnectEd coaches come from the young people’s communities because they understand the issues the young people face, and can swiftly build trusted relationships with them. The employment of local coaches also aims to bridge cultural differences, leading to greater community cohesion.
