Quick summary

The Early Intervention Coaching Programme aims to support young people to increase attendance and reduce exclusions from mainstream school.

The ReconnectEd coaching programme is an early intervention initiative for young people facing adversity, with the aim of increasing attendance and reducing exclusions from mainstream school. They do this by providing a trauma-informed coaching programme to address the root causes of exclusion, crime and violence.

The target audiences are young people at risk of exclusion and their families/carers. The anticipated outcomes are for the young people to reengage with their learning, improvement in attendance, and fewer suspensions and permanent exclusions, which all lead to better life chances, increased social mobility, and less exposure to negative influences and crime.

They also anticipate an increased understanding for schools of young peoples’ needs, and how they can positively intervene.

ReconnectEd coaches will come from the young peoples’ communities, because they understand the issues the young people face, and can swiftly build trusted relationships with them. The employment of local coaches also aims to bridge cultural differences, leading to greater community cohesion.
