This initiative sees Game Changed Network work in partnership with Steel City Gym in Sheffield and their CIC, The Thunder Projects, to run a series of takeover sessions in schools to promote gender equality, to prevent and reduce Violence Against Women and Girls. These sessions take place in both Sheffield and Doncaster, and are aimed at 14–18 year olds.
The programme uses sport as a tool to teach self-defence, and young girls are given advice on what to do when walking home alone, and what to do if they are the subject of unwanted attention. This project is also aimed at young males, and there are discussions on how to be respectful to women, and how their actions can impact on the way a woman feels.
There are sessions where males and females are split, but also big group sessions where young people can be open about the problems they have faced.
They are also running an evening class for women aged between 18 and 25 to learn self-defence. These sessions are running once a week for 12 weeks.
