Purpose
The long term goal is to prevent the representation of abuse in children’s relationships as they grow and develop into adolescence and beyond, by supporting their recovery.
Quick summary
This intervention aims to develop children’s understanding of healthy relationships, increase emotional intelligence and subsequently their resilience, increase safety and build support networks to encourage children to share their worries, and gain support from trusted adults.
‘One of a kind’ will be a six week programme delivered to primary schools across the Doncaster borough. As this is a children’s group work intervention, parents will have a full understanding of the programme their children will be attending which will inform their understanding of healthy relationships.
This intervention aims to develop children’s understanding of healthy relationships, increase emotional intelligence and subsequently their resilience, increase safety and build support networks to encourage children to share their worries, and gain support from trusted adults.
In addition to this, the prevention work done will aim to reduce the tendency for risk taking behaviour, anti-social or criminal behaviour and therefore reduce the likelihood of children in their own relationships experiencing domestic abuse, either as a victim or perpetrator.
The children targeted as part of this early intervention and prevention model are those that have been identified as living in families that have been, or are currently experiencing domestic abuse.
