The focus of this initiative is to engage targeted groups of female students in Year 8 (aged 12-13) in a series of weekly school-based workshops to improve their understanding of topics linked to Violence Against Women and Girls.
The primary aim is to prepare participants to recognise the signs of unhealthy and dangerous relationships from an early point. The secondary aim is to empower participants to share their learning with peers to reframe community attitudes towards Violence Against Women and Girls. Participants will be identified by their schools according to their perceived risk of becoming victims of Violence Against Women and Girls in the future. Sessions will be structured in a way that encourages learning through peer discussion, as well as prioritising subject content that participants feel is relevant.
Targeted school-based provision will be complemented by the implementation of an open access workshop offer connected to existing sports-based provision (e.g. Premier League Kicks). Workshops will focus on promoting gender equality, with staff fostering discussions at three weekly sessions across Doncaster to develop more positive attitudes towards females. These sessions will be attended by over 90 unique young people aged 8-18 each week.
Their Premier League Kicks workshops will be accompanied by a large-scale event led by an external provider to promote positive behaviours and reduce substance misuse. These additional sessions will support participants with advice, as well as signposting them towards additional support, and into other appropriate projects funded by match funders.
