Area

Funding amount
£12,021
Purpose
The funding enabled Barnsley Trading Standards to undertake a series of inspections of business premises to identify and apprehend illegal tobacco products.
Quick summary
Barnsley Trading Standards successfully utilised the funding to identify and apprehend illegal tobacco products before it was made available to consumers.
This operation resulted in the seizure of 247,460 cigarettes at street value prices of approximately £5. This equates to £61,865 of stock lost by criminal groups and individuals. Had these cigarettes been legitimate goods sold, over £88,000 of revenue would have been paid to the government i.e. in duty and vat on packs of cigarettes retailing at £10 per pack.
