The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has visited Gleadless Valley Tenants and Residents Association (TARA).
The TARA has recently received funding from the VRU’s Violence Reduction Fund.
This aims to support young people and prevent them from becoming involved in violence, with the TARA receiving funding for a programme to provide youth space in Gleadless, supported by Sheffield United.
The initiative aims to provide safe spaces for young people, for socialising, exercising, conversations, and learning.
Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit said: “Through working in partnership, the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit’s ambition is to prevent and reduce violence across our county.
“Our Violence Reduction Fund aims to do so by providing support for young people, particularly through the provision of sporting activities and safe spaces.
“Our work with Gleadless Valley TARA, in partnership with Sheffield United, is a prime example of this, providing football sessions alongside a safe, welcoming environment for young people to meet up with friends, with benefits for mental health as well as physical.”
