The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has visited Dinnington Community Boxing Group.

Dinnington Community Boxing is an organisation dedicated to improving mental health and fitness in the communities of Rotherham and surrounding areas, through their tailored boxing and fitness sessions.

The Boxing Group has received funding from the VRU’s Violence Reduction Fund, to deliver “Talk and Train”-style sessions, offering free boxing and fitness, as well as building support networks and self-confidence with links to professional counsellors and organisations.

The VRU visited one of the Boxing Group’s regular Saturday sessions.

Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit said: “Through our Violence Reduction Fund, the VRU aims to support organisations in providing positive engagement and activities for young people, developing healthy lifestyles and behaviours and preventing involvement in violence.

“Dinnington Community Boxing Group’s “Talk and Train” initiative supports both physical and mental health, and also makes a positive difference to the wider community. I look forward to working with them over the coming months.”
