The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has visited Community First, a programme based at the Yorkshire Main Community Centre in Edlington, Doncaster.
The aim of the programme is to deliver fun sessions which bring families together in a safe space, enabling them to play and build positive memories and stable relationships.
The VRU has recently funded Community First through its Violence Reduction Fund, which provides support for organisations supporting young people in South Yorkshire.
The Unit provided nearly £8000 for the initiative to employ a Community Engagement Officer to support the delivery of their sessions.
During their visit, the VRU met with staff and families taking part in one of the sessions, before a community litter pick which also involved local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs).
Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit said: “Community First carries out important work in Edlington, providing a safe space and fun activities for local children and families.
“I’m pleased that the VRU has been able to fund the initiative through our Violence Reduction Fund, and that the Unit could visit to meet staff and families involved in the programme.”
