The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit has supported a Rotherham Safer Venues Together Event.
Held at the Rockingham Professional Development Centre, this brought together venue owners and staff, and organisations such as South Yorkshire Police, Rotherham Council and the St John’s Ambulance Service.
The aim of the Event was to look at how different groups and organisations can work together to keep people safe in the Night Time Economy.
The day involved talks from South Yorkshire Police, the VRU and Rotherham Council. Following the talks, those in attendance had the opportunity to look at the different stalls which had been set up.
Topics covered at the Event included Violence Against Women and Girls, drink spiking, knife crime, venue licencing, and CPR training.
Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit said: “With the Night Time Economy now fully reopened after COVID restrictions, it has never been more important to look at how we can work together to keep people safe on a night out.
“Events such as this are a good opportunity to bring together venue staff and key stakeholders, and I’m pleased that the VRU was able to attend.
“The VRU’s ambition is to work in partnership with organisations and communities to prevent and reduce violence. We will continue to support efforts to do that both in the Night Time Economy and in other settings across South Yorkshire.”
