The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has supported a Night Time Economy training event in Barnsley.
The event, held at Shaw Lane Sports Club, brought together venue proprietors and staff, along with the VRU, Barnsley Council and South Yorkshire Police.
During the event, attendees covered a number of different topics, with a focus on keeping people safe in the Night Time Economy.
This included drug and alcohol awareness, what to do in case of spiking, how to spot signs of domestic abuse, and the importance of safe spaces and the Ask for Angela scheme.
This allows anyone on a night out to go up to the bar and ask for Angela. They will then be taken to a safe space within the establishment and given the support they need.
Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit said: “The VRU’s ambition is to work with organisations and communities across South Yorkshire to prevent and reduce violence, and I’m pleased that the Unit was able to attend this event at Shaw Lane Sports Club.
“This was a fantastic opportunity to bring together key partners and stakeholders to share best practice and discuss the steps we can take to keep people safe on a night out.”
