The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and Safer Rotherham Partnership (SRP) have visited Saif’s Boxing and Fitness Gym, on Canklow Road.
The gym is a safe haven for local people in Rotherham, welcoming everyone from all backgrounds. The gym teaches children and young people to be respectful to others, takes a big stand on tackling bullying, and teaches not just self-defence but also life skills.
During their visit, the VRU and SRP observed one of the boxing fitness sessions taking place, and asked gym members for their views as part of the SRP’s consultation on their priorities for Rotherham for the next three years.
This consultation ran from 7th February to 4th March. You can find out more on the consultation here: https://www.rotherham.gov.uk/consultation-feedback/say-safer-rotherham-partnership-priorities-2022-25
Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit, said: “I’m pleased that the Violence Reduction Unit has been able to support Saif’s Gym with funding, and that the Unit could visit the gym along with partners from the Safer Rotherham Partnership.
“Boxing gyms such as Saif’s play an important role in bringing people together, promoting fitness and providing a safe space for the whole community, particularly children and young people who are able to socialise with their peers while learning life skills.”
