Forced Marriage
Forced marriage is a form of honour-based abuse. It is when one or both people who do not, or cannot consent to the marriage and are forced into it.
Forced marriage is seen as a form of domestic violence and/or child abuse in the UK and it is a violation of human rights.
You could be a victim of forced marriage if;
- You did not say ‘yes’ to marriage
- Your family or extended family use emotional pressure and/or physical pressure to make you agree to marriage
- You are not allowed to discuss your marriage with anyone and are forced to stay in confinement
- If you were not aware you were getting married
