Violence Reduction Fund 2019
The violence reduction fund allows us to award funding to community based projects which play an important role in the fight to reduce crime.
Community groups from Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield have all been successful in the first round of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Fund, with some covering the whole of South Yorkshire.

Cathedral Archer Project
This project provides support to vulnerable men and women with a history of violent behaviour, either as a perpetrator or a victim, criminality and those who are transitioning from prison into the workplace to enable their lives to become positively transformed.
HMP Lindholme
The funding helped to install CCTV cameras in the blind-spots of the accommodation to monitor inmates in every corner of the premises which has resulted in a reduction of reported crimes to the South Yorkshire Prison Policing Team.
South and West Yorkshire Resettlement Consortia – Conference and In2Out Project
The funding enabled a conference to launch research into Looked After Young People in Custody.
Smart Water for Domestic Abuse
This is the first initiative in the country to use transferable SmartWater forensic marking products. 48 Domestic abuse victims have received SmartWater.
Unity Gym Project
The Unity Gym project provided intensive support to nine young people to raise awareness about grooming, exploitation, violence and its consequences.
Sheffield City Council Outreach Van
The VRU funding enabled Sheffield City Council to purchase of a van to deliver outreach interventions into communities or individuals involved in substance misuse, public drug and alcohol use activity. A dedicated contact number to report issues requiring quick response is also provided.
Organised Crime Group Partnership Coordinator – South Yorkshire Police – Rotherham District
This work aims to develop a cohesive approach to better understand Serious and Organised Crime to be able to develop and deliver targeted interventions aimed at disrupting those involved in and responsible for such crime.
Assertive Outreach
The Assertive Outreach - Missing Young People project helped locate and support 20 ‘missing’ young people.
Mediation Sheffield (MESH)
StreetTalk is a project to prevent extremist behaviour including racism and hate crime.
