The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has visited the EPIC Hub, a youth support service based in Doncaster’s Frenchgate Shopping Centre.
The Hub provides proactive youth work and positive diversionary activities for young people, and opened last year with support from VRU funding.
The VRU has provided further funding through the Doncaster Community Safety Partnership, which brings together key partners to co-ordinate the local response to serious violence.
This funding has helped the Hub to continue to provide its youth support offer. The VRU visited to meet the team and chat about the work they are doing to support young people.
Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit said: “Supporting young people is a priority for the VRU. We recognise how difficult the last two years have been for many, with COVID-19 leading to lockdowns, missed schooling, and mental health challenges caused by loneliness and isolation.
“Positive diversionary activities, such as those provided by the EPIC Hub, are important not just in addressing these issues, but in helping to develop healthy attitudes, behaviours, and lifestyles for young people.”
