The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has supported a community event hosted by the Dinnington Boxing Group.
The event, held in Whiston, was an outreach event. This saw leaders from the boxing club out in the community with their boxing gloves and equipment, inviting local young people to take part in their ‘Talk and Train’ initiative.
This provides sessions where the boxing club offer free boxing and fitness, as well as building support networks and self-confidence, with links to professional counsellors and organisations.
‘Talk and Train’ has been funded by the VRU through its Violence Reduction Fund, which focuses on supporting young people, to prevent them becoming involved in violence.
Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit said: “Dinnington Boxing Group’s ‘Talk and Train’ initiative is a fantastic way to engage young people in sport, providing positive role models and fitness activities which are essential to a healthy lifestyle, while also supporting their mental health.
“I’m pleased that the VRU has been able to support this project through our Violence Reduction Fund, and that the Unit was able to attend the community event in Whiston.
“We look forward to working closely with the Boxing Group as the initiative progresses in the coming months.”
