The South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has visited Dinnington High School, to support a session run by the Dinnington Boxing Club.
The Club runs regular sessions at the High School, with a dedicated boxing ring set up for pupils.
This has been funded by the VRU, which has provided funding through its Violence Reduction Fund for the Boxing Club to provide free ‘Talk and Train’ sessions, building fitness while promoting positive mental health.
The visit, which took place alongside the Mayor of Rotherham, Councillor Tajamal Khan, was held to see one of the sessions and learn more about the partnership working between the School and the Club.
Graham Jones, Head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit said: “Through the VRU’s Violence Reduction Fund, we are aiming to support young people, providing diversionary activities to support development, mental health, and positive life choices.
“Dinnington Boxing Club is a great example of the type of work we are trying to support, and I’m pleased that the VRU was able to visit the ‘Talk and Train’ session at the High School, to see this work in action.”
